This non-profit organization for outdoor sports participants approached Ndex with the idea of creating an online community where outings could be scheduled and joined by anyone.
Business Issues
The Organization had already established an email list to coordinate group outings. But as the participant lists grew, such a method became unwieldy. They needed a better way to manage their members and allow their members to better interact with each other.
Solution
We secured the OutdoorsClub.org domain name and started development of the current web site. We released it on August 25, 1999. Since then, the club has grown even faster through viral marketing and greater levels of participation of existing members.
Today the OutdoorsClub.org has chapters all across the US and Canada and continues to grow at a rapid pace. We hope that each member will enjoy the activities and the benefits that the "club" offers, while we continue to spur its growth and expand on its simple concept.
Technology
The OutdoorsClub portal was built using a variety of technologies and tools. Macromedia Dreamweaver was used to create static HTML pages. Dynamic pages which needed to be constantly up to date with current information was created using ASP. The backend database that drives the whole site was developed in MS SQL 7.0. Dynamic database driven Flash components were also created to provide rich user interfaces.
